Accountants Balance Tax and Tai Chi

You might not expect an accountant to be focusing on Taoist arts alongside money matters, but as well as developing tax expertise, some of the team at Bird Luckin have also been practising Tai Chi.

Regular classes are now held at the Aquila House office in Chelmsford, led by Admin Manager Carolyn Finch, an accredited instructor with the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Great Britain.

The ancient Taoists were masters of the arts of health and longevity, and this modern interpretation offers participants a low impact exercise routine as part of a holistic approach to restoring and maintaining health.

“People of all ages and abilities can learn and benefit from the gentle turning and stretching movements,” explained Carolyn. “And anything that can help to improve people’s overall health and wellbeing, on both a physical and mental level, has got to be positive.”

The classes are proving popular with staff of all ages and fitness levels, including Tax Consultant David Henfrey, who said: “Having completed the initial training course, I’ve found that as well as improving my balance, Tai Chi really is a great form of exercise.”

HR Director Janis Osborne also supports the classes. “It’s important for people to try to get a good work-life balance, even though that can sometimes be difficult to achieve,” said Janis. “That’s especially true in the current climate, where people in businesses may have found themselves working longer hours or under more pressure than normal. If you get the balance wrong, it can have a major impact both on your health, and your life outside work.”

“Bird Luckin know, from being involved with the Essex Business Awards for so many years, that there are many businessmen and women in the county who are working incredibly hard to succeed. But it’s also the case that people tend to achieve more and perform better when they are healthy and happy, and work-life balance can play a major part in that.”
