Bird Luckin runners beat the heat in the 2010 Race for Business
More than 1,700 runners from 183 businesses, organisations and charities across the county took part in the 12th annual Race for Business in Chelmsford at the end of June, on what proved to be the hottest race day so far.
And despite the soaring temperatures there were some fantastic performances from those taking part, including the 15-strong team running for Bird Luckin.
This year’s race was officially started by Essex’s Lloyd Scott, probably best known as the man who walked the London Marathon in a deep-sea diving suit, and who has raised millions of pounds for various charities over the years.
While sponsorship money for the 2010 Race for Business is still coming in, the event – organized by solicitors Wollastons –looks set to break the £400,000 total since it was first run in 1998. Bird Luckin has regularly contributed to that total, and this year was no different, so congratulations to all of the team who took part and completed the three and a half mile course around the town centre, raising funds for some very worthwhile causes.
Special mention should go to Paul Ellisdon, our first runner home in 23m 29s, who was 113th overall; Sam Parker (24m 44s), our second runner home in 183rd place and the 11th female overall; and Jack Hollyman (26m 14s), who was 299th overall, and who, with Paul and Sam, made up the BL team in 41st place.
