Why choose Bird Luckin

Bird Luckin steps up to support Dance21

A local dance group for children with Down syndrome has become the latest Essex charity to benefit from Bird Luckin’s fundraising efforts.

Dance 21 was set up in Chelmsford 11 years ago by Mary Schultz and dance teacher Jean Hunter, after Mary’s daughter Ellen, who has Down syndrome, became a regular member of one of Jean’s classes.

As well as performing regularly at shows and events around the county, they have also starred on the West End stage and at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre, and last year appeared on the Sky 1 TV show Got to Dance.

Dance 21 is exactly the sort of organisation that Bird Luckin had in mind when we set up its charitable fund with Essex Community Foundation (ECF) two years ago.

Bird Luckin Director Gayner Smith, and Manager Michael Breame, who are both part of the company’s Chelmsford team, recently went along to a Dance 21 practice session to meet some of the group and hand over a cheque for £500.

Gayner said afterwards: “It was fantastic meeting everyone involved with Dance 21. The youngsters are clearly so talented and work really hard on their routines, while the teachers and organisers are very professional and have great skills and expertise to pass on."

"It’s a great organisation whose members have already achieved an incredible amount, and we’re delighted to be able to support them and help them to do more in the future.”
