Ian Plunkett

Having joined Bird Luckin in 1976, becoming a Partner at the Chelmsford office in 1986, Ian Plunkett is a well-known and active member of Chelmsford's business community, a factor which has helped him to establish many working partnerships with other professionals.

Those partnerships complement the wide-ranging expertise already available to Bird Luckin's clients, and help to provide the overall package of service and solutions - coupled with a personal approach - which Ian believes is essential in today's business environment.

"One of my clients commented recently that we are 'no ordinary accountants', and I think that epitomises the Bird Luckin ethos; we have a 'can do and will do' approach to finding the solutions that best suit our clients, and we care about them and their businesses," said Ian.

"I'm happy to take a great deal of time to work closely with clients, to understand them and their needs, and to be able to offer a high level of personal service to meet those needs; all of which is backed up by the skills and expertise of our team, who work very well together.

"It's important that we care about our clients. If we do the right things for our clients, if we put them first, then our reward will come as a consequence of that - if our clients do well, we do well.

"I believe my role as a Director with extensive general practice experience is to be a good communicator with clients, to listen and offer advice, as well as a facilitator - to make sure they have access to the resources and expertise they need.

"It also helps to be a lateral thinker; sometimes the solutions which will work best for our clients are not the most obvious, but by drawing on those resources and expertise, we can tailor the solutions that will be the most effective in helping them to develop their businesses."

Outside of work Ian, who is married with two grown up children, is a lifelong and enthusiastic Manchester United supporter, a keen golfer and a regular visitor to the gym; he also enjoys socialising, and the occasional pint of real ale.
